Meet the Team

How would you describe your job:

As a superintendent it’s hard to describe my role on our job sites. I can spend an entire day with my head in the drawings preparing for the next phase or I could be sweeping floors all morning, picking up scrap material, etc. My main focus is to make sure our project is moving forward in the right direction to land on time, on budget, and per the drawing.

What brought you to the construction field:

I’m a Native Alaskan shareholder with Nana Regional Corporation. In 2012 they chose a new headquarters that required a full renovation of the core and shell of the structure. They had asked the contractor to hire shareholders of the corporation to help with the build and the rest is history.

Why do you like construction:

Every project has a new location, a new team of contractors, and a new set of variables. Construction is not a perfect science and it is not something you can master. You can spend a lifetime working through different challenges learning and growing from the beginning till the end.

What’s your favorite part of the job:

My favorite part of the job definitely has everything to do with friendships and bonds that are created through these projects. The harder the project, the stronger the bond. We work with the some of the brightest contractors in the state. Meeting them and making new friendships through it has to be the greatest reward.

Words to live by:

"Hard work always pays off."

Motto when it comes to your job site:

I learned this motto from the first superintendent I ever work for. He used to say this during challenging moments throughout the project: “There’s always a way.”

Sometimes projects present very challenging situations that are difficult to accomplish, and this motto is how I was taught to handle of them.

How would you describe your job:

I'm a overseer of employees and subcontractors to ensure safety, organization of jobsite, scheduling of subcontractors and vendors, scheduling of inspections, quality control to ensure project is proceeding on time and within budget.

What brought you to the construction field:

After departure from US Air Force, I took a job as a pipe fitter building oil refineries and really enjoyed it. Ever since then I've been in construction.

Why do you like construction:

Observing a structure being created from raw land and conceptual drawing to its final amazing features for all to see!

What’s your favorite part of the job:

Really enjoy seeing owners reactions to final product.

Words to live by:

"Organizationally adept professionalism."

Motto when it comes to your job site:

Clean, organized and safe job site is a formula for success.

How would you describe your job:

Satisfying. Creative. Fun.

What brought you to the construction field:

Where to begin? Many, many, moons ago....I dropped out of school at 15 because I couldn’t stand sitting still all day. Joined British Army for an engineering degree to build and design things. After 4 years, I realized I was still behind a desk. Came to Alaska in 1987 and joined Carpenters Union. Found out I could build with tools instead of a pencil.

Why do you like construction:

The physicality it takes and the use of ones brain. When I go home mentally and physically exhausted, it was a great day! (Happens more and more, the older I get).

What’s your favorite part of the job:

At the end when watching people utilize the structure that you have just created.

Words to live by:

"No matter what you do in life, strive to be the best at it."

Motto when it comes to your job site:

Giving 100% is giving everything you got. Giving 110% is give 10% more than it’s humanly possible. If we’re going to win as a team we need 100% of you guys, giving 110%, 100% of the time.

If only 50% of you guys give 110% and the other 50% gave 50%...I guarantee you 100% that we’d only win 50% of the time.  Suppose 75% of the 100% gave 50% and 50% of the 100% gave 25% and 75% of the 110% weren’t feeling 100%.... then we’d be in a heap of trouble!

That’s why we need 100% of you guys, giving 110%, 100% of the time!
